IC LM309 Based 5 Volt Power Supply Circuit

Today many electronic circuits need stable 5 volt DC supply.

However, AC mains supply is very high, so voltage reduction is also required.

Also voltage regulation is important and therefore a voltage regulator circuit is used.

In this article, a simple IC LM309 Based 5 Volt Power Supply Circuit is explained.

Moreover, the circuit is reliable and is also easy to build, thus beginners can build it without any difficulty.

Parts List:

ComponentsValueQuantity
CapacitorsElectrolytic 2200uF 25V2
Electrolytic 220uF 25V1
Ceramic 0.01uF1
SemiconductorsBridge Diode 1N54024
Voltage Regulator IC LM309 or IC LM78051
SPST On-Off Switch1
Fuse 0.5A1
Step Down Transformer 6.3V 2A1
DC Power Output 5V DC1

In this article the circuit converts 220V AC into stable 5V DC.

At first, the AC supply is applied to the transformer and as a result the voltage is reduced to 6.3V AC.

Then the low AC voltage goes to the bridge rectifier, so AC is converted into pulsating DC.

After that C1 and C2 capacitors are used and they remove the ripples.

Hence, smoother DC voltage is produced.

Now this DC voltage is fed to LM309 IC and this IC regulates the voltage.

Therefore, the output becomes constant 5 volts DC.

Finally C3 and C4 are used at output and they remove the noise and thus clean and stable 5V DC is obtained.
