This circuit is about a simple 7806 Based 6V 1A Regulated Power Supply Circuit which converts AC mains voltage into stable 6V DC output.
Many small electronics projects need fixed 6V supply and this circuit gives clean and reliable output.
Main part of this circuit is IC 7806, a simple linear DC voltage regulator IC which gives fixed 6V output with 1A current.
This project is easy to make because it uses few parts and cost is low.
Circuit Working:

Parts List:
| Components | Values | Quantity |
|---|---|---|
| Resistor | 1k 1/4 watt | 1 |
| Capacitors | Electrolytic 2200µF 25V, 100µF 25V | 1 each |
| Ceramic 0.22µF, 0.1µF | 1 each | |
| Semiconductors | Voltage Regulator IC 7806 | 1 |
| Any standard indicator LED | 1 | |
| Bridge diodes1N4007 | 4 | |
| Transformer primary 110V/220V AC, secondary 0V-9V AC | 1 | |
| Switch On/Off Switch | 1 | |
| Fuse 0.5A | 1 | |
| Heatsink for IC 7806 | 1 |
In this circuit, the AC input comes from mains, switch S1 turns ON or OFF the supply, fuse F1 protects from overload and transformer T1 steps down high voltage AC from 220V or 110V to 9V AC.
Bridge rectifier D1 to D4 converts AC to pulsating DC and this DC is not smooth, capacitor C1 filters the ripple and makes it smoother DC.
Then DC goes to input of 7806 IC, capacitor C2 removes high frequency noise, LED with resistor R1 shows power ON status.
7806 regulator gives fixed 6V output, capacitors C3 and C4 improve output stability and reduce noise and final output becomes stable to 6V DC.
How to Build:
To build a 7806 Based 6V 1A Regulated Power Supply Circuit follow the below connection steps:
- Circuit starts by collecting all the parts as in above diagram.
- Then start, with transformer primary and connect to AC mains through switch and fuse.
- Secondary connects to bridge rectifier D1-D4.
- Bridge rectifier Connect four diodes in bridge form.
- AC from transformer goes to two AC terminals.
- Positive and negative outputs go to filter capacitors C1 and C2.
- After that start with IC 7806 pin input and connect to filtered DC from capacitor C1, C2 and anode of LED.
- Pin ground connect to common ground line.
- Output pin goes to regulated 6V and connect output capacitor C3 and C4 between output and ground.
- LED is indicator and connect LED in series with resistor R1 from input DC to ground.
Conclusion:
This 7806 Based 6V 1A Regulated Power Supply Circuit is simple and useful project which gives stable DC output using Voltage Regulator IC.
This circuit is good for small electronics projects and proper heat sink must be used for regulator IC.
Correct capacitor selection improves the circuit performance, as this design is easy to build and low cost.
