Simple IC L7660 Dual Power Generator Circuit

This Simple IC L7660 Dual Power Generator Circuit makes dual power from single 5V input.

It gives +5V and -5V output.

It is useful for op amp circuits, analog circuits and small signal circuits.

The design uses ICL7660 voltage converter IC.

The circuit is simple and uses only two capacitors.

Circuit Working:

IC L7660 takes the 5V input and flips it to make negative 5V.

Pin 8 is V+ as it takes the +5V input.

Pin 3 is GND and it connects to input ground.

Inside IC there is charge pump circuit and it switches capacitors fast.

Capacitor C1 is charge pump capacitor.

Capacitor C2 is output smoothing capacitor.

The IC charges C1 at one moment and flips the charge at next moment.

This creates negative voltage at pin 5 VOUT.

So final output is +5V at pin 8 and -5V at pin 5.

How to Build:

To build a Simple IC L7660 Dual Power Generator Circuit follow below the connection steps:

  • Take all the parts as shown in circuit diagram.
  • Pin 2 Cap+ pin connects to positive side of C1.
  • Pin 3 GND pin goes to ground of power supply.
  • Pin 4 Cap- pin connects to negative side of C1.
  • Pin 5 VOUT goes to negative -5V voltage output.
  • Pin 8 V+ connects to +5V input.
  • C1 10uF connected between Cap+ and Cap-.
  • C2 10uF connected between VOUT and ground.
  • Input connector are with +5V and ground.
  • Output connector are with +5V, -5V and ground.

Conclusion:

This Simple IC L7660 Dual Power Generator Circuit is small, cheap and easy.

It makes dual supply from single 5V source.

It is best for low current analog circuits.

IC L7660 gives stable and clean negative voltage for small loads.

The construction is simple and needs only two capacitors.
