Simple Car Stereo Amplifier Circuit using IC TDA1553

Last updated on 18 January 2025 by Admin-Lavi Leave a Comment

A car stereo amplifier is really important because it boosts the sound signals from the stereo system giving enough power to make the speakers work well.

The circuit we are looking at uses the TDA1553 chip which is known for being a strong Class B amplifier.

This chip is specially designed for car radios making it small and efficient while needing very few extra parts.

What is cool is that this circuit can power two speakers that each have a resistance of 4 ohms, which means it can produce a strong and clear sound that makes listening to music even better.

Circuit Working:

Parts List:

Component TypeDescriptionQuantity
CapacitorsCeramic 100nF1
Ceramic 220nF2
Electrolytic 2200μF 25V1
Electrolytic 4.7μF 25V1
SemiconductorsIC TDA15531
Other Components4Ω speakers2
On Off switch1

The circuit diagram above clearly displays the TDA1553 integrated circuit along with capacitors used for decoupling and filtering a power supply and two 4 ohm speakers.

It is designed to work with a 12V DC power supply, which is usually taken from a car battery.

Capacitors C1 and C2 are important for decoupling the power supply helping to stabilize the input voltage and reduce any unwanted noise.

The audio input right signal goes to pins 1 and audio input left signal goes to pin 13 of the TDA1553 IC.

Coupling capacitors C4 and C5 are used to block any DC components that could disrupt the input signals.

The TDA1553 IC amplifies the audio signal and works in a bridge tied load (BTL) setup.

This means that both the left and right channels use two amplifiers which greatly increases the power output.

The amplified audio signals are sent to the connected 4 ohm speakers, speaker1 right and speaker2 left providing a strong and clear audio experience.

Additionally, the On / Off switch in the diagram allows for switching between different operating modes such as standby, mute and normal operation.

This is helpful for saving power and reducing noise when the circuit is not in use.

Formulas with Calculations:

Below are the formulas with calculations for Simple Car Stereo Amplifier Circuit using IC TDA1553

Power Output (Pout):

The output power for a Class B amplifier in bridge mode can be calculated as:

Pout = Vsupply2 / 2 * Rload

where,

  • Vsupply is the supply voltage of 12V in the circuit.
  • Rload is the load resistance for 4Ω speakers

Substituting the values:

Pout = 122 / 2 * 4 = 144 / 8 =18 W per channel

Thus, the total power output is approximately 36W for two channels.

Heat Dissipation:

The TDA1553 IC generates heat during operation.

The power dissipated as heat can be approximated by:

Pheat = Psupply − Pout

where:

  • Psupply si the total power drawn from the supply calculated as Isupply * Vsupply
  • Pout is total power output.

Ensure proper heat sinking for the IC to maintain safe operation.

How to Build:

To build a Simple Car Stereo Amplifier Circuit using IC TDA1553 follow the below mentioned steps for assembling and connections

Gather all the components mentioned in the above circuit diagram.

  • Connect pin 1 of IC1 TDA1553 to capacitor C4 and GND..
  • Connect pin 2, 5 and 8 of IC1 TDA1553 to GND.
  • Connect pin 3 of IC1 TDA1553 to +12V DC positive supply.
  • Connect capacitor C1 and capacitor C2 from positive supply of +12V DC and GND.
  • Connect pin 4 of IC1 TDA1553 to one end of 4Ω speaker1 right and other end of 4Ω spekear1 right to pin 6 of IC1 TDA1553.
  • Connect pin 7 of IC1 TDA1553 to one end of 4Ω speaker2 left and other end of 4Ω spekear2 left to pin 9 of IC1 TDA1553.
  • Connect pin 10 of IC1 TDA1553 to positive supply
  • Connect pin 11 of IC1 TDA1553 to one end of S1 On / Off switch and other end of S1 switch to positive supply.
  • Connect pin 12 of IC1 TDA1553 to positive of capacitor C3 and negative of C3 to GND.
  • Connect pin 13 of IC1 TDA1553 to capacitor C5 and GND.

Conclusion:

The Simple Car Stereo Amplifier Circuit using IC TDA1553 is a smart and effective way to boost the sound in your car.

It is easy to build and provides great sound quality making it perfect for people who like to work on their own audio systems or want to upgrade their cars sound.

To make sure it works well, it is important to manage heat and have a steady power supply.

This amplifier is also compact and simple to put together since it needs very few extra parts.
