Simple Motor Powered Emergency Flashlight Circuit

Last updated on 24 July 2025 by Admin-Lavi Leave a Comment

This is Simple Motor Powered Emergency Flashlight Circuit which is easy to make for emergency light.

It uses motor like generator to make power.

Power goes to LED for light and charges the supercapacitor.

And then it turns motor to charge.

Circuit Working:

Parts List:

Component TypeDescriptionQuantity
Resistors220Ω 1/4 watt1
SemiconductorsSuper Capacitor1
DC Motor1
LED any 5mm 20mA1
Schottky Diode1
Push Button1

To make motor flashlight first understand how circuit works.

Motor spins and make electricity and we use this power to turn ON LED light.

Power goes into special part called supercapacitor which stores power.

LED stays ON longer when used supercapacitor and not direct motor.

Like water gate controls water the same diode control power direction.

Schottky diode stops power from going back to motor but it only goes to capacitor.

This keep motor safe and that is why Schottky diode is better than normal diode.

LED is light part in which supercapacitor gives power to LED.

Like water valve it stops too much power to LED and this protects the LED.

Push button switch control when LED turns ON.

Spin motor shaft like blow fan and make power.

And this power stores in capacitor.

When we press switch the power goes to LED and light turns ON.

Formulas:

This is how to make emergency light using motor.

DC motor work like generator and it charges the supercapacitor and the supercapacitor give power to LED for light.

Some important formulas for this kind of circuit:

Supercapacitor Charging Time:

Use this formula:

Tcharge = R × C × ln(Vcapacitor / Vinitial)

where:

  • R is resistance in motor inside + outside resistor
  • C is supercapacitor size with capacitance
  • Vcapacitor is full voltage of supercapacitor
  • Vinitial is voltage at start

LED Resistor:

To stop too much current in LED we used resistor and below is the formula:

RLED = (Vsupply − VLED) / ILED

where:

  • Vsupply is supercapacitor full voltage
  • VLED is LED voltage drop
  • ILED is how much current LED needs like 20mA

This circuit is easy and good for emergency light.

We spin motor by hand to charge, supercapacitor save energy and LED gives light.

Ensure we connect all parts correct.

Choose right values for our parts to work well.

How to Build:

To build a Simple Motor Powered Emergency Flashlight Circuit follow the below mentioned steps:

  • Gather all parts like in circuit diagram above.
  • Connect supercapacitors positive leg to positive and negative leg to negative.
  • Connect DC motors one wire to positive and other one to negative.
  • Put Schottky diode and push button to positive line.
  • Add resistor R1 and LED from positive to negative.

Conclusion:

This Simple Motor Powered Emergency Flashlight Circuit need no battery as it is easy to make and works well.

Motor spin makes power and supercapacitor stores power through which LED gives light.

Resistor protect LED and control the brightness and diode help charge better.

Now spin the motor and enjoy free power!
