555 in astable mode make repeat signal like clock tick.
Signal goes to small speaker and make ticking sound.
Circuit is good for beginner, easy to learn 555 timer and sound making.

Circuit uses 555 timer in astable mode.
555 turn ON and OFF to make square wave.
ON/OFF speed make ticking sound.
R1 43k control capacitor charge speed.
C2 10µF with R1 set timing.
C1 10µF block DC and pass AC to speaker.
Speaker 8Ω change signal to sound.
How to Build:
To build a Simple Timer Based Clock Ticking Sound Circuit follow the below steps:
- Collect all parts from circuit diagram.
- Connect pin 1 of 555 to GND.
- Connect pin 2 to pin 6.
- R1 goes between pin 2 and V+ and also connect to pin 6.
- C2 goes between pin 2 and GND.
- Pin 3 connect to (+) side of C1.
- side of C1 goes to one side of 8Ω speaker.
- Other side of speaker goes to GND.
- Pin 4 and pin 8 connect to +9V.
Conclusion:

Change R1 or C2 to change tick speed.
